Anchorage Water and Wastewater Utility Term Contracts
Water Line Easement Survey | Anchorage, AK
AWWU has retained RPKA to provide engineering services under several Term Contracts, services include surveying, planning, design, and construction oversight of numerous small capital water and sanitary sewer projects throughout the Anchorage bowl. Projects performed under these term contract include the following:
Wendy’s Way Sewer Replacement
RPKA provided engineering services for the Wendy’s Way Sewer Rehab Project, whose objective is to remove and replace approximately 240 feet of sewer main on Wendy’s Way. Our services included agency coordination, data collection, design, permitting, bid package preparation, public involvement, and record drawings.
Kathy Place Water Upgrade
RPKA provided engineering services in relation to a BCE Report for the Kathy Place Water Upgrade. The objective was to evaluate the 2-inch galvanized distribution line located along the back lot lines. AWWU wanted to know if it was decommissioned and if the existing water service connections within the project limits identified were completed. The evaluation addressed the history and condition of the piped systems, work completed to date, objectives, problems to address, options for improvements or repairs, risk assessment for each option, economic analysis, and present recommendations of the preferred scope for construction. RPKA’s services for the design study included review and evaluation of existing documentation, performance of on-site visits, and coordination with AWWU departments to assist with the definition of the scope of construction needed. The evaluation also included concept drawings showing construction scoping options and preferred upgrades.
86th Avenue Sewer Upgrade
RPKA provided surveying, design, bid, and construction services for the 86th-Golden-Jewel Lake Sewer Upgrade project. The objective of this project was to remove and replace an existing 8 inch AC sewer line located in 86th Avenue between Golden Street and Jewel Lake Road. Survey services included establishing horizontal and vertical control based on the Municipal standard datum, as well as a physical ground survey within the subject project limits that included ground shots, surface structures and features, manhole inverts, top of valve nuts, and other related field conditions necessary to develop a survey site plan used as a basis for design. Design services consisted of a conceptual design submittal and a final design submittal, both including an Engineer’s estimate. Special requirements were included on the drawings for special construction considerations. Bid services included supporting AWWU on an as needed basis throughout the bid process. Construction services were comprised of general in-office construction administration services on an as needed basis.
Midtown Sewer Upgrade
RPKA provided engineering services for the AWWU Midtown Sewer Upgrade whose objective was to upgrade approximately 644 linear feet of 10-inch AC sewer line located north of West Northern Lights Boulevard between Blueberry Road and A Street. RPKA’s work for this project included surveying, geotechnical investigation, design and construction bid document services. Our surveying services included establishing horizontal and vertical control based on the Municipal standard datum. A physical ground survey was completed along a 60 feet wide corridor following the current sewer line alignment. The survey included ground shots, surface structures and features, manhole inverts, top of water valve nuts, and other related field conditions necessary to develop a survey site plan used as a basis for design. The geotechnical investigation included three borings to a depth of 16.5 feet below the ground surface. Representative soil samples were collected during our field efforts and delivered for analysis to the corrosion consultant. After which a corrosion analysis report was completed. Our services also included one site visit to measure the stabilized groundwater level after the drilling was completed. Design services included MASS Special Provisions and an Engineer’s estimate using AWWU design and drafting standards. Special requirements were included on the drawings or in the specifications and contract documents booklet for special construction considerations. Bidding services included production of a bid document package consistent with AWWU purchasing requirements, which included invitation to bid, special provisions, submittal list and standard forms, contract documents, bid proposal (tabs), utility requirements and permits, minimum rates of pay, SBE/DBE/WBE requirements, EEO contract compliance specifications, record drawings, soil boring logs and drawings.
Aircraft Drive Water Upgrade
RPKA provided AWWU with engineering services, which included Temporary Water System and Traffic Control Plan drawings for the Aircraft Drive Water Upgrade. The work consisted of producing a Traffic Control Plan (TCP) showing the Jersey barrier along the length of the pipe trench, signing for the excavation and signing for the temporary water service road crossings. As well as producing a Temporary Water Service Plan for four water service locations, which was submitted to ADEC. One of the four services required a minimum of 3-inch diameter temporary service line to a large building. Two of the services required a 1-inch service line. One of the temporary services needs either a 1-inch or 3-inch service.
